August 2017

Introduction

Well any day now the kids are back to school, fall is in the air and UCSB Mens Soccer has started anew!  As you will see below, I have one of my most important articles to share with you, and I mean very important for everyone from age 8 and up.

Additionally, using this new resource is a great way to kick off your fall health initiative of improving your health even more.  Our "fall" weather is some of the greatest for eating well and getting outside for healthy and fun exercise.  Combining those with the fine tuning of critical nutrients can bring many short and long term benefits.

As always, please let me know if you have any health questions regarding yourself or any friends of family.  Just email me a [email protected]

My Most Important Article of 2017:  New BrainSpan Testing!

Over the last 15 years, I have come across 3 health care technologies that are game changes. When it comes to health this means they provide very precise and important information that relates to a large segment of the population, which I can very specifically recommend steps to influence in a positive way.

One of these was the Heart Scan, one was the Omega Quant/Omega 3 Index Test and the most recent is BrainSpan.

I am extremely excited about BrainSpan.  This test is used to Measure, Track and Optimize your Brain Health!  However, as you will see below, this is about much more than just Brain Health.  Additionally, the science behind it is excellent and thoroughly established.

Besides measuring the most important Fatty Acid Balances for brain cells  and the health of all cells, it is also measuring Memory Capacity, Processing Speed, Sustained Attention and Cognitive Flexibility.

This test also provides key information letting us know if you are receiving maximum protection from Omega 3's for reducing your risk of Sudden Cardiac Death by as much as 90%.

I consider this test The Single Most Important blood test for overall health!

The results from this test directs us to steps that will optimize your Omega 3 supplementation, which can affect your inflammatory state, immune health, hormonal health, risk of stroke, risk of future dementia, resilience to concussion, and mood regulation.

From the list below you can see why Omega-3's are critical, and at the top of my list of Essential Nutrients.

Here is a partial list of conditions associated with Omega-3 Fatty Acid Deficiencies:
Acne, Allergies, Alzheimer's, Angina, Anxiety and Depression, Atherosclerosis, Arthritis, Asthma, Auto-immune Conditions, Behavioral Disorders, Brain Injury, Breast Cancer and Breast Cysts, Numerous other Cancers, Dementia, Diabetes, Eczema, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Hyperactivity and ADHD, Acute and Chronic Infections, Immune Deficiencies, Inflammatory Conditions, Intestinal Disorders, Kidney Disease, Learning Disorders, Leukemia, Lupus, Menopausal Symptoms, Mental Illness, MS, Neurological Disease, Obesity, Parkinson's Disease, Post Viral Fatigue, Psoriasis, Schizophrenia, Stroke and Vision Disorders.

The test is very reasonably priced at $145. That includes a follow up visit with me to go over your results. Our family plan, as this test is important for everyone over 8, brings the price down to $130 per test for a family of 3 or more.

The best way to go about taking the test is to just call the office and schedule a time to do it there.  We have you use our iPad and then it is over and done right then and there.

As the results and follow up steps to reach ideal levels of Omega 3 fatty acids are so important, please share this information with friends and family.  We can do this test for non-patients.

Also, please be sure to view the Sample Report and Introductory Video that are provided in the article below.

Dr. Dale Has Been Doing This How Long?

This past July marks the beginning of my 35th year in practice and my 33nd year in Santa Barbara.  Thankfully, it is a very fulfilling career and as you can tell by my excitement about our new health offering (BrainSpan), my passion has not waned.

I am always very excited when something comes along that can make a distinct difference in the health and lives of my patients.  Fortunately, due to the passion of others who are looking for new and impactful healthy options, progress continues in this field that allows me to support you in achieving A Lifetime of Wellness with Vitality and Longevity.

Recommended Reading

I listen to about a book a month, while driving mostly to and from work.  Laurie and I always listen to a book when we drive on vacations and thoroughly enjoy this tradition. This habit adds significant richness to my life and oftentimes valuable information.  Some of the books I discontinue as they are not nearly as exciting as I hoped, some of course are quite good and then there are those that are excellent.

Last month I listened to the excellent book, Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande.  I highly recommend this book for anyone over 50, anyone with parents over 65, anyone facing severe health challenges or those who have a loved one that is facing such challenges.

This is a rich and thought provoking book, written by a second generation Medical Doctor, who thoroughly considers important health and life questions.  Please move this book to the top of your reading list, I am confident you will be glad you did.

Product of the Month Special!

BrainSustain is the single richest meal replacement product I have ever seen. This month we have a special on this great meal option that protects your brain, heart and overall health.  Please read the linked article below to see just what a bargain this product is, and this month get an additional 10% off when you buy 1 or more containers.

BrainSustain is an exciting product designed by noted brain nutrition expert, neurologist David Perlmutter, M.D.  It is a rich combination of vitamins, minerals, proteins and antioxidants designed to support brain health, enhance brain function, promote healthy memory and offer strong protection against the damaging effects of free radicals. These free radicals are highly associated with brain damage that can lead to the degenerative diseases of the brain.

Who Is It For?

BrainSustain is for anyone over 45 who wants to minimize their risk of future cognitive decline and brain related degenerative diseases, e.g., Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's disease, etc.
BrainSustain is also very important for anyone with a history of brain damage from physical injury, stroke or excess alcohol or drug use.  Oftentimes these individuals will notice fast and significant cognitive improvement.

Anyone who has risk factors for, or a history of cardiovascular disease will also benefit from BrainSustain.  This includes those with high blood pressure and smokers, as well as anyone with a family history of heart disease or a positive calcium score on the heart scan.  This is the best meal replacement supplement for heart health that I have seen to date.  Many of the vitamins and antioxidants that are essential for the brain are also essential for the heart and cardiovascular system.

Additionally, anyone who wishes to maximize brain function can use BrainSustain!

The quality of the nutrients in BrainSustain is very high, and they are all present at therapeutic levels.  Many products use nutrients at such low levels that they offer little to no therapeutic value and are often included mainly for marketing purposes.  This is not the case with BrainSustain.

Such a Deal!  The cost of BrainSustain, if taken as a meal replacement for either breakfast or lunch, is significantly offset by not having to buy food for that meal.  For many people it will actually cost less than the food they would normally eat.  Also, for most patients, I can reduce the dosages of some other supplements since those nutrients are included in BrainSustain already. The individual nutrients alone in Brain Sustain amount to over $298 for a month's supply of products if bought separately.

We sell BrainSustain for $84.50 per container, which is a half-month supply.  This is below the suggested retail of $88.40.  For $169.00 per month, you get $298 worth of very high quality nutrients, and you are further offsetting this cost by not having to buy and prepare 30 meals that month.  Most importantly, you are getting the single most comprehensive brain and heart meal replacement supplement I have seen so far.
Please remember that for optimal brain support it is critical that you also take your MonoPure or OmegaPure 900 EC capsules at the correct dose for you.

The other really good news is that so far approximately 80% of our patients who have tried this product notice immediate brain function benefits!  Some are more dramatic than others.  Don't worry if you take Brain Sustain and don't notice anything right away; it can take up to a month for some people.  It starts working immediately to reduce your risk of those degenerative diseases of the brain and heart without any noticeable changes in function.

Brain Sustain is the perfect product for that spouse who doesn't want to take a lot of pills or be on a complete nutritional program.

Quote of the Month

Sow a thought, and you reap an act;
Sow an act, and you reap a habit,
Sow a habit, and you reap a character;
Sow a character, and you reap a destiny.

Appointment/Cancellation Policy

At Santa Barbara Wellness for Life we are committed to providing all of our patients with exceptional care.  Our doctors and staff want to be available for you and your family when you need it.  When a patient cancels without giving enough notice, they may prevent another patient from being seen.  When another patient misses an appointment or fails to cancel in a timely manner, they may be preventing you from being seen!

As of July 31, 2017, we are taking a new stand in implementing our cancellation policy due to a recent increase in missed appointments and late cancellations, as well as increased demands on the schedule.

    •    To cancel or reschedule an appointment, please give us 24 hours' notice.
    •    To cancel a Monday appointment, please call our office by 2:00pm on Friday.

We do understand there are times when you must miss an appointment due to an emergency or a work/family obligation.

    •    We will allow three missed appointments or late cancellations per patient.
    •    After three missed appointments, you will be charged $35.00 for each miss or late cancel.

Thank you for being a valued patient and for your understanding and cooperation as we implement our policy.  It will enable us to open otherwise unused appointments to better serve the needs of all patients.

In Closing

One of the great side benefits of reading Being Mortal was an added motivation to do as good a job as possible taking care of my health and well being.  Interestingly enough, Dr. Gawande does not really talk about this directly.  However you do get to see the wide range of possibilities for health and longevity that people achieve, or the early decline and suffering that inflicts many.

We cannot predictably avoid all disease, we can only do as much as possible to be as healthy as we can be.  The great news about the actions that have the greatest likelihood of extending our lifespan is that they will immediately improve are daily quality of life, and allow us to enjoy more fully the time we do have. For me that is the greatest benefit of living a healthy lifestyle.

Yours in Health, Dr. Dale
